Baptism

Baptism is one of the two Sacraments of the Church of Scotland.

Baptism is the church’s sign of new life in Christ Jesus. It is a gift from God, a gift God offers because God loves us.

It is an outward sign of the affirmation of God’s love for each and every one of us, and a celebration that we have a very special place within the church family.

For this reason, baptism is part of a service where the congregation are gathered, to welcome and affirm the place of the child or person being baptised within the church family.

Often it is young children who are baptised, but it is not exclusively so. If you would be interested in having your child  baptised, or being baptised yourself, please speak to the Minister.

Blessing of a child

An alternative to baptism is a service where a child may be blessed. As with baptism, the blessing ceremony takes place at a service of worship. The words and promises are different, and no water is used. To talk about this further, please speak to the Minister.
